Sam is a seasoned intellectual property litigator and trial lawyer. For the bulk of his career, he was a partner at the international law firm of Jones Day, where he founded and led the intellectual property practice of the firm’s Atlanta office. Sam has litigated and tried cases in courts throughout the United States in matters involving patents, trademarks, unfair competition, copyrights, trade secrets and restrictive covenants. He also has substantial experience in suits involving complex business matters and general litigation.

 

In the patent litigation arena, Sam has handled a wide array of subject matters, including cases dealing with telecommunications, chemical compositions, mechanical processes, and business methods. As an example of his vast experience, he was lead counsel for 12 defendant groups in the In re Katz Interactive Call Processing Patent Litigation, the largest patent multi-district litigation matter in history. He is also a trained mediator and arbitrator, and has handled numerous alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

 

In short, Sam combines years of legal experience with keen business acumen in order to achieve a client’s objectives. In recognition of his standing, he has been selected for over a decade as a Best Lawyer in America for Intellectual Property Litigation. Sam is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell, signifying a preeminent rating based upon rigorous peer review, and he has also been named by Georgia Trend Magazine as one of Georgia’s Legal Elite for Intellectual Property Litigation.
